3 tips to start taking more professional photos

You don't need a $5,000 camera to get professional results. Follow this free guide to optimize your iPhone and master outdoor lighting today.

Want your product to look like a titan?

1. Get Low.

See how moving the horizon line (yellow line) to be behind the subject, as opposed to above the subject, makes the car look larger and more bold? Use this same idea in your own photos to make your product look like it came straight from a comic book!

2. Clean the canvas (and the lens!)

Before snapping, look past the product. If there is a distracting element, move 2 feet to the left or right to hide it behind the product itself. Note how on the right image, the background cars are moving behind the car in the foreground, causing the subject to have less contrast. Also be sure to clean your lens before the shot! Nothing ruins a shot quicker than a big smudge in the shot.

3. The "Golden Grid" (Rule of Thirds)

Notice how placing the subject on the left line doesn't just look 'balanced, it creates a natural canvas for your headlines, call-to-action buttons, or logos. If you center the subject, your text will have to go over their face, which looks messy and unprofessional.

A final note from Small house media

Paying attention to these small things while you take the images can save hours in the editing room. If you nail the composition upfront, your final brand assets will look like they cost 10x more than they did.
